This exhibition celebrated 125 years since the opening of the City and South London line, the first electric tube line. The line ran from Stockwell to King William Street in the city; what is now part of the Northern line. Members of Carousel produced a variety of personal responses to the inspiration generated by this momentous development in transport which had such an immediate and enduring impact on Londoners' lives.
The Carousel artists researched a wide range of perspectives related to underground transport and channelled this inspiration into Textile works utilising techniques including fabric painting, screen printing, monoprinting, transfer printing, batik, knit, appliqué, feltmaking, embellishment and stitch.
