This exhibition was curated by Sue Kibby for Morden Hall Park Community exhibition space – (a South London National Trust Property). The exhibits were drawn mainly from work submitted originally for a joint project between Morley College and the Garden Museum. This took place in London in June 2014 to commemorate the start of World War 1 by exploring the role of gardening and the impact of this war effort on the home front.
We collaborated with an educationalist, a heritage craft instructor and a young undergraduate to present the history of gardening skills in a way which raised the challenges of growing food for city populations today. Our target audience was the local families who live nearby and use the park.
The emphasis was on the content and meaning of the pieces of work and also explained how an artist moves from research to the making of the finished piece of work.
